Theatre, exhibitions, dance and everything in between.
Sri Lanka's arts calendar is broader than it first appears: English and Sinhala theatre at Colombo playhouses like the Lionel Wendt, gallery openings and photography exhibitions, classical and Kandyan dance performances, poetry evenings and film screenings. Colombo hosts the bulk of it, with Kandy strong on traditional performance and Galle drawing literary and arts crowds in season.
The rhythm is seasonal: festival season leans towards the early months of the year, while Kandy's Esala Perahera brings traditional performance to the fore around July and August. Theatre runs are short — often just a weekend or two — so book through the production's official seller as soon as dates are announced. Exhibitions are the easy entry point: most are free, and you can simply walk in.
There are 17 upcoming arts events listed in Sri Lanka. Venues include Elphinstone Theatre, Lionel Wendt Theatre and Namel Malini Punchi Theatre Borella. The next one starts on Sat, 15 Aug 2026 — each listing carries the confirmed date, venue, map and a link to the organiser's official seller.
